Toyota Repair: Low Idle, 4afe engine, electrical problem

I have a 1993 corolla 4afe engine. The rpm on the gauge doesn't reach the 1000rpm even when Im traveling at over 50mph. What could be the problem?

If you are able to get to 50mph I doubt that there is an engine performance problem, it's not possible to go over 50mph if the engine has a serious problem or loss of power, it must be an electrical problem with the tachometer, it's possible that the tach needs to be replaced.
