Toyota Repair: overheating, radiator hose, fan clutch

Question
I have a 1995 toyota pick up 4x4 with a 3.0 motor and an auto transmission.  Tonight I turned it on to let it warm up a little and when I returned the truck was running hot.  Once I got going down the road the temp. gauge dropped but if i got stopped at a light the temp. would rise again.  I am thinking it is the thermostat but I am unsure.  What else might it be if isn't the thermostat, and how hard of a fix is this for a DIY.

Thank YOU

Answer
I would certainly try the thermostat first, it's located in the thermostat housing where the bottom radiator hose connects to the engine, there are three 12mm nuts holding the housing on, it's easier to remove the hose first and then the housing, if the overheating persists after that then the problem may be a partially restricted radiator or a fan clutch that is not working, check to see that the fan turns fast at idle.
