Toyota Repair: Fluid Flush, toyota corolla, recommended maintenance

Question
My 1998 Toyota Corolla has run 78000 miles and when I took it to nearest dealer, it was recommended to do Power STEERING AND BRAKE FLUID FLUSH service totalling 400 $ or more is it recommended. Others charge just 90-90$ each. I did not fine any such mention in car mannual

Answer
The ownner's maintenance manual does not mention any fluid flushing requirements because these are not part of the recommended maintenance, this does not mean that they may be unessesary it just means that the conditions will vary with driving conditions, location etc. so there are no set rcommendations it's basically up to the dealer upon inspection of the fluids whether this may be necessary. Fluids like this can get contaminated by moisture and other contaminants over time and break down, whether or not it's needed at this time in your case I have no idea without looking at the fluids themselves, have the dealer show you the fluid condition and give you a reason why it should be done.
