Toyota Repair: 1996 avalon service, oil change intervals, interference engine

Question
Dealer says there is no time interval for changing the fuel filter but pushes an injector cleaning service, doesn't make sense to me. I only see the filter under the hood is there also one in the tank. At 130k I'm thinking of having the timing belt changed again, Just want to make sure its a non- interfarance engine,What dealer service items do you consider bogus. Been changing the oil every 5k what about synthetic. Thanks Peter

Answer
The injector cleaning service is probably a waste of your money, at this mileage it may be a good idea to replace the fuel filter, there is a non serviceable pickup screen in the fuel tank but no actual filter. It is a non interference engine. I personally see no need to use synthetic oil, it's a matter of preference, the main advantage is that the oil change intervals are longer, changing oil at  every 3,000-3,500 miles using regular oil seems to work ok.
