Toyota Repair: Sunroof leak, roto rooter, drain tubes

Question
I have a 2004 RAV4 that leaks on the passenger side "A" pillar after heavy
rain. The dealer says the power sunroof seals need to be replaced, and that
the seals only come in a  kit with the glass (there is nothing wrong with the
glass). I poured some water in the tracks today to test the drains and it is not
draining on the passenger side- the water leaks into the car. Is there any
other option rather than the $700.00 dealer repair? Thanks

Answer
I don't know of any seal kit or the reqirement to replace the glass part, maybe I'm missing somehting but I have repaired a lot of sunroof leaks and in most cases either one of the drain tubes came off which allows water to leak inside or the drain gets clogged up by foreign objects(leafs etc)this seems to be the case here since you are pouring water in but the tube doesn't drain. Toyota actually makes a special tool the looks kind of like a small roto-rooter that can be used to clean out the drain tube but I guess the dealer that you are going to doesn't know about this, you can try cleaning the drain out yourself with a wire that is somewhat bendable, if it's too stiff it can cause the tube to come off the connection on the sunroof drain channel causing another leak, using compressed air from a hose may also work, the bottom line is that there is something in there that needs to come out so it can drain out the bottom. I think what the dealer was referring too is the seal around the sunroof glass which indeed comes with the glass but that diagnosis is completely wrong, the sunroof seal is not watertight and in heavy rain or car washing it's normal for them to leak into the drain channel, that's why the factory puts in  the drain channel and the drain tubes.
