Toyota Repair: 1999 Toyota Tacoma Extended Cab 4WD 2.7L, national tire battery, brake warning light

Question
I am having multiple problems with my 1999 Toyota Tacoma Extended Cab 4WD 2.7L truck with 100,000 miles.  The brake idiot light on the dash board has been intermittent for the past three weeks.  I took the wheels off about 10 days ago to check the brake pads, which I found to be ok.

After putting the wheels back on, I noticed that the truck wasn’t riding as smoothly as before.  The next day, I stopped at Wal-Mart to have the tires rotated and spin balanced.  I then noticed that the steering wheel had to be turned to 10 o’clock to just steer the truck straight!

It goes a little further.  I was coming home from work a day later and noticed a major shimmy to the truck.  I stopped at my local National Tire & Battery to have the vehicle aligned and see if they could help me with my problem.  The technician wasn’t able to align my vehicle and stated that in his 15 years alignments he’s never seen a vehicle do a complete 360 to the RIGHT when not holding the steering wheel, while his alignment machine states that the truck should be pulling to the LEFT.

I was told to go to my dealer.  I talked to my neighbor who works there and he set me up for this Friday.  Now I find that due to a death, it’ll be a few more days before they can look at it.  The holidays are tough as a lot of people are taking their vacations.  Now the idiot light is on constantly.

Any ideas to what I my truck’s problem is?  Paranoia is setting in that this isn’t going to be a cheap fix.

Thanks,

Greg

Answer
Not sure what is going on but the brake warning light normally indicates low brake fluid level, have it put on the alignment rack at the dealer to see if there is a major alignment problem and have the brakes checked, there may be a hydraulic fluid leak.
