Toyota Repair: CV boots grease ?, cv joints, cv boots

1986 4-Runner 4wd, 170K+ when removing the inner passenger side CV boot it contained a very thick oil, almost like transfer case gear oil.  The outer boot had the expected grease.  What type of lubricant is supposed to go back on/in? thanks!

It's normal for the inner cv joints to have this oil like substance after many miles, the grease used on the inner cv joints is different, if you are replacing the cv boots the kit should come with two tubes or bags of grease marked for inner and outer cv joints.
