Toyota Repair: 1995 Tercel Transmission Oil Pan Gasket, pan gasket, transmission leak

Question
Mr. Ritter:
I am going to try to fix a transmission leak in my (soon to be my son's) 1995 Tercel.  I would like to try and replace the oil pan gasket.  Could you offer any guidance as to how to do this with as little pain as possible?  Thank you

Answer
The oil pan is held on with a bunch of 10mm bolts, remove all the bolts(drain the oil first by removing the drain plug) pry the oil pan off, remove the old gasket, clean the gasket surface, attach the new gasket to the oil pan using light grease to hold it in place,do not use sealant or gasket adhesive, re-install the oil pan by starting all the bolts before tightening them all the way, once they are all started into the threads then tighten them but do not overtighten, just enough to squish the gasket a little.
