Toyota Repair: 99 4 runner transmission, repair transmissions, remanufactured units

Question
In the mornings, my wife's 4 runner will go in reverse with no problem.  After she places the automatic transmission in drive, the car will hesitate and barely move forward.  It takes about 30 seconds to 2 minutes, and the car is fine after that?  She has 91000 miles on it?  I've had people tell me it is the torq converter going bad?  Then why does the car go in reverse instantly?  Appreciate your help.

Answer
I've never seen just the torque converter cause this problem, it is normally caused by hydraulic fluid pressure leakage inside the transmission, very few repair shops repair transmissions anymore, they are normally replaced with remanufactured units, I think that this transmission is having a major problem and needs to be replaced along with the torque converter.
