Pontiac Repair: 95 Grand Am V6 Accelerates OK, but doesnt maintain speed, chevron techron, spark plug wires

Question
When I drive long distances on the highway my car has trouble maintaining its
speed.  It accelerates fine, but if I try to maintain a certain speed it starts to
shudder.  The shudder stops after I take my foot off the gas.  Any ideas?

Answer
Hi David:

well it sounds like it's an engine issue more so then a transmission problem. Possably a misfire condition meaning not all 6 cylinders are firing. You could have a bad set of spark plug wires that are arching and causing the misfire. Does it do it more when it's damp out? If so that could be a clue. Also thes older engines had issues with fuel injectors plugging up. That will have the same "feel" as plug wires being bad. You may wantr to try a bottle of chevron "techron" fuel injector cleaner in the tank. If it's been a while since the fuel filter has been replaced do that as well. Jusat a few things to try first. Good luck :)
