Toyota Repair: 1995 Toyota 4Runner knock sensor, engine compression ratio, combustion chambers

Question
Ted, I have a 1995 4Runner with a knock sensor code (52). First is there a way to check the sensor and secondly where is the sensor located? I have two repair manuals but neither show the location. Thanks

Answer
The knock sensor is located under the intake manifold. There is no reliable way to test it, the code can also be triggered by another problem such as excessive engine pinging or detonation caused by too far advanced timing, engine overheating or excessive carbon in the combustion chambers which will raise the engine compression ratio, when replacing the knock sensor the wire should always be replaces also, finally, before doing anything make sure the connector is plugged in, the connector is located just below the throttle body.
