Toyota Repair: frozen ignition, lock cylinder, lock the lock

Question
We bought a new ignition for our 98 Sienna, but in order to replace it we need to be able to turn the key to ACC to push the pin in and release the old one.  How am I to get the old ignition out if I can't turn the key to ACC?

Answer
Sometimes it helps to just have a new key made, it may be able to be turned with a new key, if not then there are a couple of other options, none of them easy, the pin may be able to be hammered in far enough to release the lock, the lock cylinder will have to be drilled out, or the entire lock assembly has to be replaced.
