Toyota Repair: 1999 Toyota Land Cruiser antenna mast, toyota land cruiser, antenna mast

Question
I need to replace my antenna mast because the plastic cable is broken off near the end (only a couple of inches attached when the mast is fully collapsed). I saw your explanation of how to do this, but I don't understand how to get the nut off the top of the fender. I can take off the very top dress nut that allows me to remove the antenna mast. That leaves a black rubber/plastic piece that conforms to the sloping top of the fender. Does this slide off? Is there a nut underneath it?

Answer
The black piece comes off but it's not necessary if all you are going to do is feed a new mast into the opening. If you are going to open the antenna motor to get the broken piece out the inner fender liner has to be removed to get to the antenna motor mounting bolt.
