Toyota Repair: 1986 Coralla, coralla, distributor cap

Question
Hi Ted, Any suggestions as to what would make the engine cutout after reaching running temperature. Seems electrical. I have checked the carbie and notice there is at least three switches. Is it possible one of these are cutting fuel supply to carbie. When cutting out, the engine dies instantly - no gradual coughing or spluttering. Initially I waited for engine to cool down to restart, but have found if I turn ignition off whilst costing following the engine cutting out, it will restart and run for a short time before cutting out again.

Answer
Possibly a distributor problem, I think on this model the ignition coil is inside the distributor, remove the distributor cap and check the cap and rotor for any burned areas or cracks, if the coil is inside remove the coil cover and check the coil closely for the same, cracks and burned spots. If no problem can be found replace the distributor.
