Question
What is the best way to clean the throttle body?  Vehicle is dead in the driveway (after towing it home, of course).  I have pulled the fuel lines and replaced the fuel filter as there were black pieces of what looked like rubber/carbon? in the old fuel filter.  Vehicle initially has a loss of power problem.  Pulled over on the highway and the car began bucking and sputtering.  Could not start vehicle after that.  I pulled the fuel filter and noticed a lot of black gunk coming out.  I towed the vehicle home and am investigating the entire fuel line system.  Aside from the cleaning the TB, any other suggestions?  Maybe clean the IAC valve?  How easy is this process for someone with a brain?  Thanks.  Paul

Answer
Neither the throttle body nor the IAC valve will keep the engine from starting, it may have driveability problems and idle problems but it should start up. Is there spark to the spark plugs? It may have a fuel pump problem, the fuel pressure should be checked if the spark at the plugs is ok, another possibility is that the timing belt either broke or jumped timing, remove the distributor cap and see if the rotor turns when the engine is cranking, if not the belt broke.
