Toyota Repair: 96 Avalon AC, push button switch, pound cans

Question
Ted,
96 Avalon, 140,000mi. AC stopped blowing cold air. Compressor clutch not turning. I have checked all relays for continuity all ok. All fuses ok. Which fuse or relay controls AC compressor clutch? AC push button switch in dash has green light on. Both engine fans not operating but if I unplug switch on top of small expansion tank with sight glass both fans operate. I have 3 fan relays on this car. Is there another up under left side of dash? I apreciate your help as Phoenix temps now in the low 115's.....Thank you.....Willy

Answer
If the center part of the compressor pulley can be rotated by hand then it's probably ok, the next step would be to try to add some freon because in most cases the compressor won't turn on because of low freon pressure, freon is available in one pound cans with a hose and a fitting to put it in at most autoparts stores, follow the instructions that come with the kit, if it takes about a can of freon to get the compressor going there is a leak in the system somewhere, it may be small or large, the freon will eventually leak out again, this is a quick fix to at least get the a/c going but it's not a permanent solution.
