Audi Repair: 462D error code, last four digits, bosch car service

Question
QUESTION: hi, my A4 TDI 2003 model loses power occassionaly ,,,i took the car to the nearest BOSCH car service for a computer scan and the report showed the following error

Control module diagnosis AUDI DIESEL EDC 15P ERROR memmory
462D Boost pressure control above control limit

what does this exactly mean and is it such a big problem that requires immediate attention.

thanks

ANSWER: Hi moakofi,

What this basically means is that the turbo is producing too much boost and the safety systems designed to prevent this are not working properly and to protect the engine from damage the control unit cuts off the power, which is what you are feeling(looses power)

it would be a good idea to have this sorted out as soon as possible as it might lead to other un-for seen damage in the long run.

QUESTION: hi, thanks for th eprompt reply,

Does this mean that the whole Turbo system will have to be replaced ?? local Audi dealers have a tendecy of replacing rather than repairing and this might be a little bit expensive for me,thats why i was asking if i could take some time before i have the problem sorted out without causing further damage to the car.

Answer
No, on the contrary its the opposite, the turbo is working fine, its just that the measures put in place to limit the power are not working the way they are supposed to and that makes the engine management shut the turbo function down to protect the engine from damage.

the code you have given me (462D) is not an Audi fault code(looks more like the last four digits of an Audi part number actally), the proper code is will look something like:

19561 - Valve for Intake Manifold Flap (N239): Open or Short to Ground
         P3105 - 35-10 -  -  - Intermittent

the important numbers above are the first one (19561) and the OBD code(P3105)

send me either or both of those codes and I will advise you further.

If you have no problem with the lack of power then you can continue driving for now but the problem will get worse with time so do not take too long.
