Toyota Repair: 91 Previa water pump, rubber bushings, drive shaft

Question
I hear a rattling/knocking from the engine. People are saying that it is the water
pump. Does that sound accurate? It heats up on occasion. Is the water pump
hard to change, and where is it. Is it a lot of work to get to it?

Answer
Water pumps rarely cause a rattling knocking noise, the problem may not be the pump, a common cause for knocking noises and vibration may be caused by the accessory driveshaft attached to the front of the engine that drives the A/C compressor and alternator etc. this shaft has rubber bushings at both ends, these bushings frequently crack, inspect them for that possibility, if so there may be a repair kit available from the toyota dealer if not the entire acc drive shaft has to be replaced.
