Toyota Repair: brake light fuse blown, light fuse, toyota camry

Question
Hi Ted, I have a Toyota Camry 93, LE 4 cylinder, auto.  I don't know what happen but the brake fuse, located underneath driver side, keep blowing, even if I try to put on the new one, it will just keeping blowing.  Car was running fine, tail lights, gauge lights, etc, all working probably, except now I don't have brake lights, and I can not drive it either because I can not shift to R,N, D etc.  It is not safe to drive without brake lights.  This is a major problem and it probably would cost a lot of money if I take it to the dealer to diagnose the problem. You've always helped me out a lot in the past, hopefully you can give me some advice that would be very appreciated in what I should do.  Thanks

Answer
The wiring harness on the left trunk hinge can be the problem, it is not uncommon for the wires inside the harness to break and cause a short circuit to the ground wire, the recommended repair is to cut the insulation away to expose the wires, remove the insulation all the way to where it enters the passenger compartment, repair any broken wires, while in there and the carpeting is peeled back, remove the tailight failure relay, it's attached to the left trunk brace, these are also a known cause, remove the connector and the relay, the relay can be opened and checked for any burned circuits, good luck and let me know if that fixes it.
