Toyota Repair: 1997 Toyota 4-runner starting problems, fe engine, toyota 4 runner

Question
How can I add an extra starter relay to the wiring harness to prevent my 4-runner from not starting. You have mentioned you have a written diagram that you will e-mail that will solve this problem. This has been intermittent for me for the past 2 years and I keep getting stranded from 30 minutes to 3 hours sometimes. I thought  the factory alarm was malfunctioning and wanted to disable it. 1997 Toyota 4-runner v6 3.4 eng, auto trans, limited edition with 151,000 miles. thank you for your response.

Answer
The extra relay fix only applies to early 4-Runners up to 1995 with the old 3VZ-FE engine. In your case I would recommend replacing the starter, the factory alarm will not cause this. If this is an automatic transmiision there could also be a problem with the neutral start switch on the transmission, if the starter makes a clicking noise when trying to start replace it, if there is no noise at all and the battery is known to be good the neutral switch may very well be the cause.
