Toyota Repair: Toyota Camry 2004 XLE, toyota camry, temperature gauge

Question
For the last year the car's engine will go into a high rev state(3000rpm)and will stay that way until the car is shut off. Then the car will not start for 30 to 45 minutes later. The latest episode does the same thing but now the temperature gauge does not work.Check engine light does not come on and service center says they do not show any codes when they put on diagnostics.Any thoughts!!!!

Answer
With this going on and the temperature gauge not working I really don't see why the check engine light would not come on and there be no trouble codes. The computer needs to have the engine temperature in order to manage the fuel system, if the temp gauge doesn't work the sending unit may have a problem or be disconnected but again, this would trigger a check engine light, this just doesn't make sense to me, maybe you should have the toyota dealer look at this.
