-----Question-----
I got atomatic V4 1998 camry with about 250000 miles engine light came on and still runs fine except when it is worm it is too hard to start and I have to put it in gear right a way otherwise it dies after idling rough. It is hard to get a code reader where I live.
-----Answer-----
Locate the diagnostic check connector under the hood and open the cover, turn the key on and put a small jumper wire in between the terminals TE1 and E1, look at the check engine light and record the number of times it flashes, a code 25 would be two flashes followed by five and so on, there may be more than oner code but there will be a pause between each code, let me know the results and I can help.

Answer
Be sure the wires of the jumper actually make contact with the metal pins in the diagnostic connector, it's easy to miss the metal part and insert the wire into the small plastic opening where there is no connection, if this still doesn't work the diagnostic scanner will need to be connected to the connector inside of the car to get the codes. If there is a major autoparts store near you, like autozone or kragen call them because most of them will get the codes at no charge for you.
