Toyota Repair: 2000 Toyota Tacoma Air Conditioner, magnetic clutch, compressor failure

Question
Hi,
My a/c no longer blows cold air. I took it to the dealership and they explained that I needed to replace the "clutch-compressor" because the a/c compressor had "come apart." I have had no problems with the clutch.  The dealership said it would cost around $2K ($1K for parts and $1K for labor).  I can't find anything in the manual about the a/c and clutch being a single unit needing replacement.  Any ideas?

Answer
What they mean is that the a/c compressor has failed and the compressor with the magnetic clutch needs to be replaced, the clutch is attached to the front of the compressor and turns the compressor on and off, there are also a few other parts on the a/c system that need to be replaced because of the compressor failure because of metal debris from the compressor failure.
