Toyota Repair: Camry 2000 will not Start, negative battery, warning lights

Check engine light came on two weeks ago, car working normal, disconnected negative battery to try and reset check engine light, now car will not start, replaced battery (same problem). (Camry 2000, 4 cylinder, 125,250 miles)

What is the car doing? Does the engine crank over and not fire or does it not even turn over, do the headlights turn on, does the radio and the accessories work, do all the warning lights on the dash come on with the key in the "ON" position, are you able to shift out of park with the key on and the brake depressed?????
