Toyota Repair: Oil leak, coolant level, toyota camry

Question
Hello,
I would like some information on what to do with the oil leak that I have for my 98 Toyota Camry. The car rides and runs fine but when I start the car, I am told that oil spits out. It is enough to be noticeable in my driveway. What could the problem be?
Also, my heat in the car doesn't work. The little heat that I do get is only on low and when I had adjusted to the next level it just blow out cold air. That too needs attention.
Thanks for the time taken to give me some helpful info.
Happy New Year,
Tiffany

Answer
Tiffany,

To find an oil leak, first you gotta take a bath. Your engine does anyway.  I would have it cleaned and then immediately inspected to see where the oil leak is coming from. There are lots of potential areas for it too leak so I won't guess at one.

Second, If your coolant level is low then your heater will not work very well. It gets "air pockets" trapped in the heater core. If the level is low then turn the temp knob all the way to hot, but leave the fan off. Start the engine and add coolant as the engine warms up. This will circulate any air out of the heater core and allow coolant to flow in.  Next you need to have it inspected to find out where the coolant is going.

If you don't have a good mechanic look for a shop that is ASE certified. You can also check BBB.org to see if any complaints have been filed against them.

Good Luck.
