Toyota Repair: Camry Transmission Solenoid, transmission shift solenoid, good heat

Question
Have a 1987 Camry Wagon 4 cyl automatic

Im getting intermittent error code that No 2 transmission shift solenoid is malfunctioning.  The shifting symptoms match those of a malfunctioning No. 2. Im thinking of checking/replacing the No. 2 solenoid.  Is it hard to get at and replace the solenoid?  Im not afraid to take the pa cover off.

Answer
Ray,

The shift solenoid is located inside the valve body. You must drain the fluid and remove the lower cover to see them. I know these are expensive from Toyota, but there are after market solenoids available. They will not have the connector so use a good heat shrink type connector to install that type. Check for a transmission rebuild part supplier.

Good Luck!!
