Toyota Repair: Gear stick, toyota hilux, gear lever

Question
Hi, my gear stick in my toyota Hilux 85,LN65. Is really lose. It feels like its going to come out when you change the gears, especially in first gear. I heard that i may need to replace the bushes. Can you help me out??

Answer
yes, if you are a mechanical minded person. you can replace the bushes. There is a plastic bush, where the gear lever sits in the gear box. A metal cup is fitted on this plastic bush to hold the plastic bush and the lever. And finally a cap with threads which holds all these parts. but before replacing the bush, check the cross pin he lower end of the lever. which sits in to the slots holding the lever firly not to turn around. check those slots if they are worn out, in that case you have to replace the top cover on the gear box which hold the lever or you have to fix those worn out holes. you can also remove the top cover by remving the bolts.
