Toyota Repair: 86 Tercel Carburator, carburetor repair, merry christmas and happy new year

Question
Hello Brandon,

I have an 86 Tercel, 160K miles, 1.5L, 3AC engine.  My concern is its
Carburetor, an Aisan, 2BBl.  I am no carburetor expert so your advice is
greatly appreciated.  This is the background.  At idle the engine shakes, and
has a rough idle, but at speed is performing wonderfully well.  Recently, when
running at speed above 50 mph it started to do some muffler backfiring only
when taking the throttle out.  I attempted to clean the carb with Carb Cleaner,
and the fuel that came out looked soiled, not a good sign nor a good
practice.  Then, the Butterfly valve in the second barrel, is open at all times,
and the engine was reving high.  A local mechanic adjusted the carb and
mentioned me it has been adjusted to the max possible and recommended
me to get a new carburetor.
I have two options, and I am unsure on which is the best alternative.  First, to
remanufacture the Carburetor I currently have.  But I’ve been told by some
people the 82 Tercel Carburetors have a Piston design, which is very difficult
to repair and if it is failing could render any carburetor repair fruitless.  My
second, option is to have a Corolla Carburetor fitted to this Tercel, for it
would require the least amount of retrofit to the vehicle.
Brandon, your advice is welcomed.  Merry Christmas and happy new year.

Answer
Oh man I hate rebuilding Asian carbs LoL! I'm too young to have ever really "played" with them back when they saw them every day.
They're not super hard to rebuild. They're just different compaired to a holley, etc. & not many people ever mess with them b/c they're abit more reliable.

I agree with you, and your mechanic. It's defiantely due for a rebuild.

Hey man Merry Christmas to you too!

I've never done that swap before. If you do it, I want to know how it goes. I'm sure plenty of other people online have had the same trouble. I'd rebuild it. That way you know what you're getting into before hand. Atleast you already know the problems
