Toyota Repair: 91 corolla steering, shaft assembly, salvage yard

Question
My car was recently vandalized, and they broke my steering wheel off.  I believe that what I need replacing is the shaft assembly.  Is this something that can be done relatively easily, or does much of the car need to be dismantled to get at it.  If I am correct, i'm looking at about 250+ dollars to get the part.

thanks.

thanks

Answer
I've thought about it awhile. I just can't really answer without seeing what they did. You have to dissasemble the steering stalk to get to it if they destroyed the entire shaft - no big deal, just takes alittle time. Otherwise just changing steering wheels is easily done.

Go pull one in a junkyard/salvage yard. The corolla is the all-time best selling vehicle. I'm sure you'll find a wrecked one somewhere. :)
