Toyota Repair: 4 runner auto problem, hydraulic problem, pressure leak

Question
hi ted got a slight problem with my 96 4runner. sometimes when in drive it will not change out of first gear, when this happens i can manually change in low and 2nd ok. other times it is fine no problems. the o/d works fine when it is all going well. the trans oil was good but i got it flushed anyway and it has low milage(70000). local garage said it could be electrical fault in transmission ( ect) they said they could not get any codes out of it. any ideas would be appreciated
cheers rod

Answer
Any electrical malfunction in the transmission control would set a malfunction code. It would seem there may be a hydraulic problem which would indicate an internal leak, see if the local garage can do a transmission line pressure test and stall test, this would indicate if there is an internal pressure leak.
