Toyota Repair: code 71 check engine light, camry v6, high mileage

Question
I have a 1989 Camry V6,2VZ-FE.  The engine light came on, and the code is 71.  According to what I have read, the cause can be EGR valve, EGR-VM, EGR gas temperature sensor, or BVSV circuit.  What is the likely cause?  How can I test the EGR-VM for failure?  Thank You

Answer
take the small vac line off and pump it up with a hand vac pump.
The engine should stumble and/or stall.

If no change, you may want to take it off, clean inside with carb clean and a pipe cleaner or such.
The vales dont usually go bad, but rather get carbon choked over time and stick.

If it does stumble and/or stall, the EGR valve is good.

then you would replace the VSV. Its the blue one, follow the vac line to it.You may want to change the temp sensor also if it has high mileage.
