Toyota Repair: 4runner, continuous fashion, throttle valve

Question
I have a 95 4runner 4wd,at, 6cyl.... In the mornings the vehicle acts like it it stuck in 4L. The trans shifts quickly to 3rd then stays there until I drive 7-10 minutes then shifts ok and is good all day. If I let the vevicle warm up with the t/fer case shifted to 4L no problems. The colder the outside temp the worse.
Thanks for any help...

Answer
I would make sure your front hubs are not locked, and that there are no stored codes in the vehicle by shorting TE1 & E1, and making sure the O/D, and Check Engine Lights blink in a steady, continuous fashion.
From there I would flush the transmission fluid, or change it via the pan atleast twice & see if the problem is better.
The Throttle-Valve (kick-down) cable tension can also be checked that it is in the normal range.
Are you sure you are in 4L? You should really only be running up around 30-40mph if you are being locked into 4L.
