Toyota Repair: 1988 supra 6 cyl. auto transmission, auto transmission, transmission fluid

Question
I just picked my son and his car. there was no transmission fluid in it, so we added some,but by the time we got 3 to 4 miles up the road it had leaked out. any ideas what to check. oh yeah it had been idling kinda of high a week or so before this happened. thanks for any info you can give.

If you can tell me where the fluid is leaking out maybe I can tell you why or what to do.
Please keep in mind- I cant see the vehicle.
