Dear Ted
I have 1982 Toyota supra with auto Trans, all the sudden overdrive quit working, all the other gears are working fine no problems,it was working fine one day and next day it was not there,i have checked fuse related to overdrive solenoid it is ok but i have not checked Trans solenoid,i don't know how to check and if it is causing the problem.
I will really appreciate your help.
Thanks and best regards

The O/D solenoid should be located externally on the transmission towards the rear on the left, disconnect the electrical connector and apply 12 volts directly to it and see if it makes a clicking noise, if not replace the solenoid, if it does then the problem is a little more complicated and could be related to the electrical wiring, the on/off switch or internal transmission problem.

Answer
I don't have any online information for this model supra so I tried to answer your question from memory but it seems that didn't help, I will look tomorrow if there is any printed information still available for the 82 and then get back to you.
I do not have a repair manual available for this model but I did find a wiring diagram and it shows that there is a single black wire for the overdrive solenoid.
