Toyota Repair: 2000 Celica GTS 6sp manual. oil thru exhaust, engine knocking, low miles on car, 2000 celica gts, worn piston rings

The car is knocking like its a diesel, has less than 44,000 miles, does not burn oil, but blows it out the exhaust. It uses about 1 quart every 125 miles. No power, you can push all the way down on the gas pedal and it will stall a little then take about 5 seconds and accelerate slowly. It's like the timing is WAY off, but there is no distributor and no way to timt engine. ( to my knowledge). The check engine light is not on either. what would cause this?

I don't know if I can be of much help, there is obviously a major engine problem, high oil consumption and engine noises are a bad sign. If there is blue smoke out the exhaust the engine is burning oil, this could be due to worn piston rings or worn cylinder walls, these engines normally do not have this problem when normally maintained so I'm wondering what may have happened to cause this.
