Toyota Repair: 1990 Toyota Camry, air flow meter, 1990 toyota camry

Question
This car was not driven for about a year. It stopped running so I changed the fuel filter about 500 miles ago and my son drove it for about 2 months. It stopped running again. I loosened the top bolt on the fuel filter and gas sprays out. I crank it and it pumps gas out of the filter.
It will start and idle but if you give it any gas it will die.
Not sure what to do next, thank you for your help and advice. Jim

Answer
Check for a large air leak on the intake side between the air filter and the throttle body, the connecting rubber hoses have a habit of cracking, if that's the case extra air will enter the intake causing the onboard computer to do strange things, also check for any disconnected vacuum hoses and make sure the air filter is not clogged, if everything checks out ok the air flow meter may be the problem.
