Toyota Repair: 86 toyota pick-up, midwest region, independent shop

Question
I recently bought an 86 toyota pick-up, with 160k miles... it ran great for a week, until my fiancee drove it to North Carolina and it ran hot and the engine blew... my question is how much will a replacement engine cost, and where should I get one, and how much will it cost for me to get it installed? I can't seem to get straight answers from any other websites...

Answer
The answers to those questions depend a great deal on where you are located, prices can vary a lot depending on location, especially labor costs, it may cost $1,800 labor at a dealer in southern california but less in the midwest region, it's not possible for me to give price quote for another region. As far as I know toyota doesn't make remanufactured engines for this year truck anymore so it will have to come from an aftermarket supplier, this could run anywhere from $1,600-2,400 just for the engine, the installation would cost around another $1,000-1,800 depending on who does the work, dealer vs. independent shop, sorry, can't be of much more help, there are just too many variables involved.
