Toyota Repair: 1988 toyota 4 runner camshaft, crank pulley, dowel pin

Question
How do I align the camshaft on a 1988 Toyota 4runner 6 cylinder 3.0.  Please advise on how I can put back the camshaft so it will synchronize with the timing.

I had my crankshaft on zero.

Answer
With the crank pulley at top dead center and the engine number one piston all the way up the camshafts are aligned as follows:
Make sure the cam gears are installed on the camshafts with the center hole on the camshaft dowel pin, there are three holes, be sure it's on the center hole, there are flanges on the cam gears, looking at the engine from the front the flange on the right gear should face foreward, the flange on the right gear toward the engine, each gear has a notch on the outer rim, these must be lined up with the notches in the sheet metal plate near the top after the belt is installed with tension on it.
