Toyota Repair: 1990 Corolla - fault code 22, toyota corolla, course model

Model:  Corolla DX 4-door
Trans:  Auto 3 speed
Mileage:88,300 (Original! I'm the second owner.)

My 1990 Toyota Corolla's 'Check Engine' light came on.  After connecting TE1 to TE on the diagnostic connector, it appears the fault code is 22.  What is this related to?

Also, engine runs rough and hesitates when first accelerating until warmed up.  This appeared immediately  after I had a shop replace the starter.

In this case the trouble code 22 refers to the water temp sensor for the computer.
They may have disconnected it when replacing the starter and forgot to reconnect it, it's located on the thermostat housing, make sure it is connected or take it back to them and have them recheck their work.
