Toyota Repair: speedometer wont work, scan tool, speed sensor

i just had a NEW speed sensor put on my 1992 toyota pick up it still does not work, what else could be the problem and what price range am i looking at. i bought this truck brand new and i dont want to part with it.  268.00 for a part that did not fix the problem hit me in the gut but since i cant take it back well you know what can i do.

do you have acess to a scan tool.
Put a scan tool on it. The signal goes from the sensor to the speedo then to the ecu.
Iff you can "see" a speed input to the ecu it went thru the speedo head. Then I would suspect the head is NG.
Get a used one.
