Toyota Repair: Brake light not working, wire harness, warning light

Question
I have an '87 Camry. The (rear) lights (warning) light is on when I drive and so the brake lights don't work. I checked the bulbs--only the bulb on the rear window is burnt. The fuse is ok. When I tried replacing the burnt bulb it still didn't work. I guess there's an electrical wiring problem? Any ideas where to find the problem and is this something I'll need a mechanic for?

Answer
The light failure light being on doesnt mean you have NO lights. It senses a drop in the circuit load and detects that a light is out.

Check the wire harness near the left trunk hinge. They often get cut in the hinge. Just match color to color and you can tape, or solder back together, then tape to the hinge to avoid being cut again. Leave enough slack for the trunk hinge to swing closed.
