Toyota Repair: 91 pick up, gas gauge, fuel gauge

Question
About 5 years ago I had my motor and trans rebuilt in my 91 toyota
pick up, with everything put back together it started an ran just
fine. But durring the whole rebuild prosses I opted to buy a new
auto due to the fact that im not a ride the bus kind of guy.
Needles to say it has been parked, not drove or started since. So
I figured I would at least use it for a work truck and not let it sit
any longer. I tried to start it but with little luck! I do know that it
will start though! I pulled the air intake off and a little shot of
starting fluid and it fired rite up no problem. I am just not
getting any fuel. I pulled the main line off that goes into the
filter, turned the key on and nothing, not a drop. I checked all
the fusses, they are all good. But my fuel gage is not working?
I dont know if the fuel pump is junk or maby a relay? I just
dont know.... CAN YOU HELP ME, PLEASE......

Answer
I'm a little confused, are you saying that the truck has not run in 5 years? If this is the case the gas in the tank is no longer usable and will not ignite.
As a matter of fact the gas in the tank may have turned to a gel and clogged the fuel pump pickup, before I go on please let me know if that is the case.
Have you tried adding fresh fuel to fill the tank to see if the gas gauge moves, if the fuel is old it may also have caused the fuel gauge float to get stuck.
