Toyota Repair: 1989 Toyota SR-5 4x4, high tension wire, intermittent problems

Question
My 1989 Toyota SR-5 pickup truck has 3.0L V6 multiport fuel injection engine with ECT, is a 4x4. I have barely been able to get it to crank. When it does crank it sounds like it's just hitting on 4 cylinders, and it goes dead quick.  I have a test light and I've tested the fuses and relays, and all fuses and relays are fine, except for the coil, sometimes it will work, then it will only hit one time.  What do you think it could be?

Answer
Ignition coils normally either work or they don't, they very seldom have intermittent problems, I assume that the high tension wire from the distributor to the coil has been checked and there is no corrosion, also the plug wires need to be resistance checked and checked for arcing to ground.
There are a couple of other causes, the igniter or the distributor, with the distributor being a more common cause.
