BMW Repair: 1997 emissions, fuel vapors, emission control system

Question
1997 BMW 328IS
I recently has m check engine light turn on.  I checked the fault codes and recieved the following:
p442 Evaporative Emission Control System leak detected (small leak)
p1250 Early Fuel Evaporation (EFC)Heater Circuit Fault
p0420 Catalyst system efficiency below threshold(bank 1)
The only problems I have noticed is a little extra time for the engine to turn over when you start it up cold.  There is also a strong fuel oder when the engine is started cold.
Thank you for your help

Answer
Rob, check your gas cap and make sure it is tight. Any of those three faults can turn on the check engine light. The catalyst potentially means the catalytic converter is failing. Not a cheap item. The others indicate the system that controls the fuel vapors that evaporate from the raw gas in the tank. The system is supposed to inject the vapors into the running engine to be burnt. Your system has detected a small leak, often due to a loose gas cap. If you have the ability clear the faults and see which fault turns the engine light on. Were all three faults currently present or were some of them in history?
