Toyota Repair: 99 4runner starting problems and acceleration, toyota 4runner, engine misfire

Question
I have a 99 Toyota 4runner sR5 4 cylinder that has diificulty starting sometimes in the morning, usually when it is cold.  It has about 116k on it.  I have replaced the battery and have run into the same issues.  Sometimes it will click (makes me think about the starter) or will just crank slow as if the battery is dead.  Recently on a trip to MD, I noticed in accelerating, my 4runner shifted gears fine (automatic), but there was a lot of skipping and cutting back when I may pass or accelerate heavily.   Just inquiring about what may be the problem.  This is the first real problem I've had. I haven't had a tune-up.  Do you think that this may help?  Thank you for your time.

Answer
First of all the starter needs to be replaced but then there is another problem which sounds like it may be an engine misfire, mormally a misfire will make the check engine light turn on, is this the case and if so what is the trouble code in the computer?
There have been problems with the ignition coil packs in the past which cause a misfire but again, they will make the check engine light turn on.
