Toyota Repair: 1993 TOYOTA CAMRY 4CYL USA, toyota camry, air gap

Question
Ted have a no spark situation. Power to the Distributer but nothing leaving to plugs. Had air gap and coil checked the all have to proper resistence and specs. Have been told the igniter is bad but VERY expensive electrical part to replace. This all started after car sat for 6mos and battery died. Jumped and Jumped and finally replace battery. Camry has 120k for miles and had original plugs and wires so I replaced them because after new battery would get a no start then a start. Before I replaced the wires cap rotor plugs while it was runnning my friend said look at those wires arc so he sprayed water on the wires and it died and has not started since. So could changing dead battery after sitting so long cause this electrical problem? I am stumped

Answer
A common problem on these engines is that the coil inside the distributor has a problem, remove the distributor cap and the rotor and the coil cover and inspect the coil for any cracks or burned spots, check very carefully with a flashlight and look on the epoxy filled area on top and on the lower area of the coil. If the coil is not the problem replace the entire distributor. 90% of the time this solves the problem.
