Toyota Repair: 2002 rav 4, toyota rav 4, repair attempts

my 2002 toyota rav 4, 4cyclinder, front wheel drive, automatic,and has 22,000 miles on it. the question is every time i put it into drive it double shifts into drive.even when it is warmed up.it kicks into gear twice.i took it to a toyota dealer and the tech said their is nothing wrong that he could find and said it is was in the 1.5 second lag time. what ever that is. could you help me or suggest what could be done? and tell me what he ment by lag time. thanks

Lag time is the time in seconds it takes for the transmission to engage after the shift selector is put into gear.
But I think what you are experiencing may not be normal, I need to know if the transmission fluid was replaced recently or any other repair attempts were made to correct the problem.
