Toyota Repair: SCION XA MAINTENANCE LIGHT, scion xa, odometer reading

Question

2004 SCION XA,   12300 MILES
MAINTENANCE REQUIRED LIGHT COMES ON.. DEALER IS VERY
FAR FROM ME

CAN THIS LIGHT BE RESET BY ME.

IT IS NOT A RED CHECK ENGING LIGHT,  JUST A MAINTENANCE REMINDER.

I CHANGE MY OIL EVERY 3000 MILES.

THE LIGHT CAME ON AT 10,000 MILES AFTER I DID AN OIL CHANGE AT THE DEALER AT 9000. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER, THEY TOOK A FEW MINUTES, AND RESET IT FOR ME.

I'VE BEEN TOLD THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM.

THANK
CHARLES

Answer
It's not a problem, it is merely a reminder light so customers will be prompted to do the required maintenance.
Turn the ignition ON
Make sure the "ODO" is displayed, not "TRIP"
Press and hold the TRIP reset button
Turn the key off and back on
Hold the reset button until the lines on the ODO display disappear and the ODOMETER reading comes back.
