Toyota Repair: 92 Corolla Clutch, independent garage, warranty policy

Question
I have a '92 Corolla and I want to know whether replacing a clutch after 100K miles is normal.  What is the approximate price for the work?  Is it dangerous to drive until the clutch goes?

Answer
YES
It depends on the location and who does the work.
Yes, if the clutch fails completely the car won't move anymore and you may get stuck in dangerous place like a real bad part of town and you may get robbed or carjacked or even worse the car may refuse to move in the middle of a busy intersection and you will be hit by a very large truck and die.
Just a little humor, sorry.
Actually, it does very much depend on where you take it to have the clutch replaced, the toyota dealer is going to be the most expensive but keep in mind that they will use genuine OEM parts and warranty the parts and labor for 12 months, prepare to spend around $900 at the dealer, no doubt it can be done cheaper dealing with an independent garage but inquire about the warranty policy.
If the clutch is slipping it will progressively get worse until the car actually will not move anymore so it's best not to let it get to that point because then it will have to be towed to the garage, call a few different repair places and get some quotes, call the dealer also, the price I gave you is based on what a dealer will charge here in southern california, it may be cheaper in other locations since S.C. seems to be the most expensive place for everything except for the east coast in the US.
