Toyota Repair: fuel delivery on 1986 toyota pickup, toyota pickup, 22r

Question
My 1986 pickup (22R) sat for about 12 months.  I have replaced
gas, fuel filter, battery, and plugs.  It will start if I prime through
the carb but will not run.  What are other possibilities to check?
I am guessing it is either the fuel pump or the lines between the
filter and the carb.  How best to diagnose these?

Answer
The fuel pump may be the problem, it's easy to check, remove the fuel line to the carb and crank the engine, place a small jar at the fuel line and see if the fuel pump  makes any kind of pressure.
The float in the carburetor may be stuck or gummed up from the year old fuel, it may be necessary to drain all the fuel from the tank and clean out the carburetor to remedy this .
